Earnings announcement - Definition

Public companies announce or release their earnings every quarter as a report of their financial performance over the last three months. This event which is usually done through a press release is called the earnings announcement. The conference call in which stock analysts can ask company's senior managements questions regarding the earnings release follows. Stock prices tend to fluctuate more due to Speculation in the days leading to the earnings release date.
