Advance-decline line - Definition

In the stock market some stocks advance and some decline. Advance-decline line is a Technical Analysis tool that captures and the declines and is considered a good measure of market's direction. The number of stocks that rose is divided by the number of stocks that declined to do the study. This is one of the well known market breadth indicators.
