Money Supply - Definition

Total Amount of money available in an economy at any given time. The different types of funds are generally classified as M. M1 consists of all cash in circulation and all funds held in checking accounts, and any money in traveler's checks. M2 includes M1 and all funds held in money market funds, savings accounts and small time deposits is equal to M2 deposits.M3 larger, institutional funds from money market, repurchase agreementsshort term, as other larger liquid assets. Unlike M1 and M2, M3 is no longer published or publicly disclosed by the Fed.
