Qualified Eligible Participant - Definition

An investor who can participate in commodity pools or trade in hedge funds regardless of whether or not they meet the portfolio requirements. Such investors include registered brokers and commodity pool operators (CPOs). For an investor to become a QEP they must meet the definition under the Commodity and Exchange Act. A qualified eligible person is an investor who fits into one of two distinct groups: (1) investors who do not need to meet the portfolio requirement and (2) investors who need to meet the portfolio requirement.
